The road to the low-emission community in 2050 has already begun, and expectations and demands from customers and other stakeholders within environment are still increasing. We experience this in relation to increased customer requirements for the buildings, increased proportion of tenders with environmental profile or environmental certification requirements. There has also been an increasing focus on emission reduction on construction sites with concepts such as fossil-free construction sites, where more and more construction machinery and equipment becomes electric, utilize biofuels or other renewable energy. HENT is looking forward to these societies’ changes and customer demands. We will be a leading player that develops and builds sustainable buildings and challenges the industry. HENT maps and identifies which part of our business has an impact on the environment, directly and indirectly. Concrete measures are followed up and results measured.

An ever-increasing share of our project portfolio is defined as green projects. Last year, 14 of our ongoing projects were BREEAM project and more and more have an environmental program implemented in the tender specifications. Conscious customers use their power of decision when placing an order not only to increase the environmental performance of their buildings, but also help lift the industry.

For many years, there has been a focus on the degree of waste separation in the industry and HENT has for that equal number of years had an internal target of 85 % waste separation. In recent years, the great potential of waste reduction and circular economy has been explored. In this regard, we are working on moving waste-reducing measures further into the action hierarchy, which has a far greater effect than focusing only on the measures implemented at the construction site.

Environmentally efficient construction site is a self-developed HENT concept that was developed in 2012. The goal is to minimize our negative impact on the environment and simulate for innovative

measures that contribute to the goal of reducing waste, reducing hazardous substances, minimizing the use of fossil energy, efficient building heat and lighting at building site. As the market changes, the minimum requirements for certification has become more demanding. In this way, we can achieve a continuous improvement.

In order to work targeted with reducing greenhouse gas emissions from our own business, HENT prepares a greenhouse gas account for the company. The model for CO² calculation is based on the International Standard Greenhouse Gas Protocol Initiative (GHG Protocol).

The greenhouse gas account identifies which direct and indirect emissions are associated with the business, which gives us the opportunity to prioritize the most effective measures.
